Join us in celebrating our veterans! This special day recognizes and honors all – both living and dead – who’ve served our nation in uniform, from inception to the present.
We’re looking forward to celebrating Veterans Day. This special day recognizes and honors all – both living and dead – who’ve served our nation in uniform, from inception to the present.
This holiday arose out of Armistice Day, celebrating the truce that ended fighting in World War 1. That truce went into effect at 11AM on November 11th, 1918. That led to a tradition of starting events at 11AM on the 11th day of the 11th month. Armistice Day became a federal holiday in 1938. In 1954, President Eisenhower renamed the holiday as Veterans Day to recognize the newer veterans from World War II and Korea. Today, Veterans Day continues to be celebrated with a variety of events, including formal ceremonies, parades, cookouts, and other events.
